What is a Search Engine?

There are two kinds of search engines that we concentrate on. The fist and probably the most popular with new Internet users are sites such as Google and Fast. These search engines use a 'spider' or a 'robot'. Without blinding you with science they build up a database of your website in their own system/ database. When their database is searched they will pull up the results from their database and show the sites. This is why it is important that your site is optimised. If it is not, you may have hundreds of pages that are just getting missed by the robots. effect pr can look at your site to see if it is index able by search engine robots.

Search Directories are human reviewed category listings that rely on submissions from site owners. These seem to be growing in popularity as the search engines are getting clogged with content submitted for attracting traffic, but may not actually have any relevance to that subject.

The directories will have people physically approving the websites submitted rather than some software.

Pay per click is now increasingly becoming the norm for webmasters to use. Sites like Google will let you sponsor keywords and gain number one result almost instantaneously. Sounds great, but you may end up paying over £5 per click if you site is using a popular search word like 'mortgage' or 'insurance'!
