Google's Page Rank

The page ranking system developed by Google relies on link structure to an individual page (link popularity). It is not just the volume of links to a page, but the ranking of the page that links to it.

If you visit, for example Rank Share - The home page has a fairly high page ranking. If have a Google page ranking of 5 then on Rank Share you will be listed on pages 5, 4, 3, 2 ,1 and 0. Instantly you have 6 high page ranked pages linking back to you. These 6 links back to you are of greater importance than many low ranking pages.

Page ranking will not guarantee that you will be higher in a search for a particular key word on Google. Unfortunately the process relies on the keywords used to link to your page among many other factors
